What Customers Say

★★★★★

"Carried this for 2,650 miles on the PCT. Set it up 126 nights. Never a tear, never a broken carabiner. The bug net saved my sanity in Oregon. Best 18 oz in my pack."

"Bought this for car camping and ended up using it in the backyard more than the tent. My kids fight over it. The 90-second setup claim is real — I timed it."

"Bought 8 for our troop. The kids abused these things — dragged them through mud, set them up wrong, overloaded them. All 8 still going strong after a year. Only giving 4 stars because I wish it came in more colors."

★★★★★

"Never set up a hammock before. Watched the one-minute video on the trailrest site and had it up in 2 minutes on my first try. Slept better than in my bed at home. The flat diagonal lay is a game changer."

Ultimate Hammock Camping Guide 2026

Hammock camping has evolved from a niche ultralight pursuit into one of the most popular ways to sleep outdoors. This guide covers everything you need: the minimum viable kit for beginners, how to pick a campsite with ideal tree spacing, and the Leave No Trace principles every hammock camper should follow to protect both trees and trail.

Single vs Double Camping Hammocks: How to Choose

A single hammock saves ounces on the trail and packs down smaller — ideal for solo backpackers who prioritize weight. A double gives you room to stretch diagonally for the flattest sleep possible, plus enough space for two people or one person plus gear. We break down the trade-offs so you pick the right size for your camping style.

The Perfect Hang Angle: Setup Masterclass

The 30-degree angle rule is the single most important factor in hammock comfort — get it wrong and you'll wake up with a sore back or worse. We explain why this angle creates the ideal sag for pressure-free sleep, how to estimate it by eye using the thumb-and-finger trick, and what to do when your trees are too close or too far apart.

Winter Hammock Camping: Underquilts Explained

Without insulation beneath you, a hammock turns into a wind tunnel that sucks warmth from your back — even in mild weather. Underquilts solve this by creating a dead-air barrier below the hammock, and choosing the right one means understanding fill types (down vs synthetic), temperature ratings, and how to layer quilts for extreme cold. This guide covers what you need to stay warm from fall through deep winter.

Camping Hammock vs Tent: Why Campers Are Switching

Tents have dominated camping for decades, but hammocks offer real advantages: they're lighter to carry, quicker to set up, and let you sleep on slopes and rocky ground where no tent would ever pitch. We compare weight, comfort, setup speed, site flexibility, and cost across both options so you can decide which system fits your trips.

5 Mistakes People Make With Their Camping Hammock

Most hammock discomfort comes down to five preventable mistakes: hanging at the wrong angle, skipping an underquilt in cool weather, over-tightening the suspension, using straps that damage tree bark, and packing the hammock away while it's still wet. Fix these and your setup will go from mediocre to magical in minutes.

Why We Made the TrailRest Hammock

We tested 47 hammocks over two years and found every single one compromised something critical — too heavy for the trail, no integrated bug net, straps sold separately, or a suspension system that was frustrating to adjust. So we started from scratch. This is the full story of how the TrailRest was designed, what problems we set out to solve, and why we believe it's the last hammock you'll ever buy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to buy anything else to use this hammock?
Nope. Everything is in the stuff sack — hammock, two tree straps, two carabiners, and the bug net (built into the hammock). Find two trees 10-15 feet apart and you're good to go.
What's the weight limit really?
We rate it at 500 lbs conservatively. The 210T parachute nylon has a tensile strength of over 1,000 lbs in lab conditions. The weak point is actually the tree straps (rated 1,000 lbs each), not the hammock. We've had two adults + a 60 lb dog with no issues.
Will this work in cold weather?
The hammock itself is uninsulated (like all camping hammocks). In temperatures below 60°F, you'll want an underquilt or sleeping pad for bottom insulation. The bug net does add a few degrees of warmth by trapping a micro-layer of still air.
How do I wash it?
Hand wash in cold water with mild detergent. Hang dry — never put it in a dryer. The nylon will last for years if you keep it out of direct sunlight when stored. Don't use bleach or fabric softener.
Can I use this indoors?
Yes! Many customers use it as a permanent bed replacement. You'll need a hammock stand or wall-mounted anchor points rated for the load. The included tree straps work with most hammock stands.
How does the 30-day return work?
If you're not satisfied for any reason, email us within 30 days of delivery. We'll send a prepaid return label. Once we receive the hammock (in any condition), we issue a full refund. No restocking fee, no questions.
